NEET UG 2026: Official Notification, Exam Dates, Eligibility, and Application Process

Introduction

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2026 is the single largest medical entrance examination in India, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This exam is the gateway for students aspiring to secure admission into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses in top government and private medical colleges across the country, including AIIMS and JIPMER.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Age Limit: The candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31st December of the year of admission. There is currently no upper age limit for NEET UG.

  2. Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 (Higher Secondary) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.

  3. Minimum Marks:

    • General Category: 50% marks in PCB.

    • OBC/SC/ST Category: 40% marks in PCB.

    • PWD Category: 45% marks in PCB.

  4. Nationality: Indian Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs, and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply.

Exam Pattern 2026

The NEET exam consists of 200 questions, out of which candidates need to attempt 180 questions.

  • Duration: 3 Hours and 20 Minutes.

  • Total Marks: 720 Marks.

  • Section-wise Distribution:

    • Physics: 45 Questions (180 Marks)

    • Chemistry: 45 Questions (180 Marks)

    • Biology (Botany + Zoology): 90 Questions (360 Marks)

  • Marking Scheme:

    • +4 for every correct answer.

    • -1 for every incorrect answer (Negative Marking).

    • 0 for unattempted questions.

How to Apply for NEET UG 2026

  1. Visit the official NTA NEET website (neet.nta.nic.in).

  2. Click on the "NEET UG 2026 Registration" link.

  3. Fill in the basic details to generate an Application Number and Password.

  4. Login and complete the application form with personal and educational details.

  5. Upload scanned documents: Passport size photo, Signature, Left and Right-hand fingers & thumb impression, and Postcard size photo.

  6. Pay the application fee online via Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI.

  7. Download and print the "Confirmation Page" for future reference.

Syllabus Focus

The syllabus for NEET UG 2026 is based on the NCERT curriculum of Class 11 and Class 12. Students are advised to focus deeply on NCERT textbooks as the majority of questions are framed directly from them.

Preparation Tips

  • Make a structured timetable covering all subjects equally.

  • Solve previous year question papers (PYQs) and attend mock tests regularly.

  • Focus on high-weightage chapters in Biology and numerical practice in Physics.
